What Started it All
The beginning
It was April 30, 2024. I was laying down on my matt with my orange scrub shirt over my eyes, blocking out as much light as I could. The small two-man cell I was in was so bright, so uncomfortable. I had been in jail for around 25 days for a probation violation charge. Out of nowhere, a CO’s voice filled the room with my name and the always welcomed “pack it up.”
The first thought that runs through my head, am I going home?
I have no idea what is going on. It’s about five days too early for me to be leaving.
I’m led to the front of the jail where they book you in and out. I ask the CO getting my release paperwork ready, “what’s going on?” He tells me I’m leaving. “Ok, where am I going?” He repeats what he just told me, “you’re being released.” I started getting excited!! Wow! My count was off, I’m going home!!
He hands me papers to sign and then tells me you’re going to a rehab.
That is all that is said I’m pointed toward a door and a CO escorts me to a small room where several people are standing in wait. A large man looks at me and asks who I am. He tells me I’m with him and we walk out. I’m still confused on what exactly is going on. I ask him where we are going he tells me Rise Up Recovery, a in patient rehab in Lancaster.
This marks the beginning of many formidable mental challenges I had ahead of me.
